Corrections
We will get things wrong. What matters is what happens next. This page explains how we handle it.
Tell us
Email [email protected] with the article URL, the passage you think is wrong, and — where you can — a source. We read everything sent to that address and aim to reply within two working days.
What we do
- Factual error. We fix the text and add a dated correction note at the foot of the article saying what was wrong and what it now says. We do not delete the record of the mistake.
- Significant error. If an error changed the meaning of a piece — a wrong verdict, a misattributed quote, an incorrect benchmark — the note goes at the top, and we update the headline if the headline was wrong.
- Minor slip. Typographical and formatting fixes are made without a note, provided they do not change meaning.
- Clarification. Where a passage was accurate but open to being misread, we add a dated clarification rather than a correction.
- Update. Where facts have changed since publication — a version shipped, a price changed — we add a dated update. That is not a correction, and we label it differently.
What we do not do
We do not silently rewrite published articles to make an error disappear. We do not remove articles because a subject dislikes them. We will unpublish only where there is a serious legal or safety reason, and we will say that the article was removed.
Right of reply
If you are the subject of an article and believe it is unfair, write to [email protected]. We will consider a response for publication.
Escalating
If you are not satisfied with our response, write to [email protected] marking your message for the editor. We will review the decision and reply with our reasoning.
